This painting is a deeply personal reflection of my experiences and service in the Navy, created as a form of art therapy to help cope with PTSD. It captures the essence of my time working on aircraft and pays tribute to the squadrons I was stationed with. The process of painting this piece allowed me to channel my memories and emotions, providing a therapeutic outlet and a means to honor my service.

The artwork depicts two E-2C Hawkeye aircraft flying in formation against a clear blue sky. These aircraft are a significant part of my Navy career, representing the countless hours I spent maintaining and working on them. The detailed rendering of the planes showcases my technical expertise and the pride I take in my work. This is one of the most detailed paintings I have done to date, highlighting my dedication to capturing the intricacies of these aircraft.

Beneath the aircraft, I have included the patches of two squadrons I served with: VAW-121 “Bluetails” and VAW-117 “Wallbangers.” These patches are more than just symbols; they are emblems of camaraderie, dedication, and the shared experiences with my fellow sailors. Each patch carries its own set of memories and stories, contributing to the rich tapestry of my naval career.

This painting was displayed at the Red, White, and Blue Veterans Art Show in July 2024 at the Woodbridge Library in Connecticut, where it stood as a testament to the experiences and contributions of veterans like myself. Additionally, I have entered this piece in the 2024 National Veterans Creative Arts Competition, hoping to share my story and connect with others through the power of art.

Creating this painting has been a journey of healing and self-expression. It is more than just an artwork; it is a visual narrative of my service, my struggles, and my triumphs. Through this piece, I aim to honor my past, celebrate the bonds formed during my service, and find solace in the act of creation.
