Wings of a rolling stone

Not every cage is made of iron.

Some are built from old conversations,
from names you stopped answering to,
from promises made in darker years
to versions of yourself
that no longer exist.

I carried them all.

The guilt.
The noise.
The endless chorus of expectations
sung by people
who never learned the weight
of the songs they placed on my shoulders.

For years,
I mistook survival for living.

Mistook standing still
for peace.

Mistook silence
for healing.

But there comes a morning
when the sky remembers your name.

When the wind taps softly at the window
like an old friend asking,
“Are you ready?”

And something inside you answers.

Yes.

Not because the pain is gone.

Not because the scars have faded.

Not because the world has finally become kind.

But because your wings
were never meant
to remain folded.

So I stepped beyond the fences
I spent a lifetime building.

I left the arguments
to echo in empty rooms.

Left the bitterness
for those who still needed it.

Left the weight
beside the road.

And I walked.

Then ran.

Then flew.

Like a rolling stone
with nothing left to prove.

Like a hawk riding currents
it cannot see
but somehow trusts.

Below me,
the old battles grew smaller.

The drama.

The anger.

The endless storms
people create
and call a life.

I watched them disappear
into the distance
like towns seen from a highway
through a rain-streaked window.

And for the first time,
I understood freedom.

It wasn’t winning.

It wasn’t revenge.

It wasn’t being understood.

Freedom was simply
refusing to carry
what was never mine.

Freedom was breathing
without permission.

Freedom was knowing
that my mind
could be a home
instead of a battlefield.

The road still bends.

The night still comes.

Some mornings,
the shadows return
looking for a place to stay.

But now I know better.

I am not the pain.

I am not the diagnosis.

I am not the wreckage
of every hard year behind me.

I am the open sky.

I am the wings.

I am the distant horizon
calling my name.

And if tomorrow asks where I’ve gone,

tell it this:

I followed the wind.

I followed the light.

I followed the part of myself
that still believed
there was something beautiful
waiting beyond the noise.

And like a rolling stone,

I kept moving.
