My Review
This is not my usual genre. I picked it up because Mr. Shaw bought my first novel and even discussed it on TikTok. Honestly, I felt I owed it to him to return the favor by trying his work. As it turns out, I’m the one who gained from the exchange.
I couldn’t put it down once I started reading. The story pulled me in early and held me thereโnot just because I had to know how it ended, but because I genuinely cared where it was going and how the main character was going to survive it. It’s a unique and interesting twist on the afterlife that was able to feel new, even when addressing difficult issues.
I appreciated that the book did not jump right into Purgatory but showed the life of the main character beforehand. It was not just filler background, it gave significance to everything that followed. It even had me doing some thinking about my own lifeโwhich I did not expect going into it.
This book was clearly a write-from-the-heart. It’s poignant, dark in places, even a little bit funny when it needs to be. It made me think, and I’ve already suggested to a few friendsโfriends who read this type of book on a weekly basisโthat they need to read it.
Now I need to read the next one.
